How to Fix and Repair Computer Errors and Problems

How to Scan & Fix Hard Drives with CHKDSK in Windows 10

If your drive has errors or you have turned off your computer without doing the regular shutdown then it’s recommended that you do a check disk with CHKDSK, here is how you can do it.

  1. Type CMD or Command Prompt in Windows Search
  2. Right-Click on the Command Prompt app from the search result and select Run as Administrator.
  3. In command prompt type CHKDSK <Your Drive Letter>: /F    (eg. CHKDSK D: /F), if you want CHKDSK to also scan for bad sectors which takes a very long time then you can add the /R option. Now you should wait until the scan is complete and if it finds errors, it may ask you if you want to fix them.
  4. After you run CHDSK it is recommended that you run a Scan and Clean with  the FREE version of WinSysClean to remove all the junk files from Windows Temp folder. Here you can download the FREE version of WinSysClean https://www.usro.net/products/winsysclean
